Kazakh agricultural delegation visits Törökszentmiklós Agricultural Ltd.
July 3, 2025 – Agricultural cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Hungary has reached a new milestone. The trilateral agreement signed during Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Budapest last year – concluded between L.A.C. KZ, the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture and the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences (MATE) – took another step forward on July 2, 2025, when a Kazakh agricultural delegation visited Törökszentmiklósi Mezőgazdasági Zrt. (TM Zrt.).
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the foundations of long-term agricultural research and seed breeding cooperation between Hungarian and Kazakh partners based on mutual trust.
The delegation was represented by Solpan Orazovna Basztaubajeva, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture and Plant Growing, and Rausan Hamzajeva Ramazanova, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry.
L.A.C. KZ was represented by Lajos Ócsai, Managing Director, and László Horváth, Chairman and CEO of L.A.C. Holding Zrt. and Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan. MATE was represented by Dr. Csaba Gyuricza, Rector, and Tibor Tóth, Managing Director of MATE Agrárcsoport Kft. TM Zrt. was represented by Péter Miskucza, CEO, and András Végh, managing director of Bázismag Kft., which is also active in the seed sector.
During the program, participants visited seed production facilities in the fields, the TM Zrt. seed plant, and the Knowledge Center established as part of the Pannon Breeding program, which provides significant support for conducting variety trials.
The following key topics were on the agenda during the discussions:
- Learning about the operating model of the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture and Plant Production, exploring opportunities for cooperation.
- Exploring opportunities for entering the Kazakh market through the new commercial channels of the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture and Plant Production, with the aim of achieving a nationwide presence.
Preparation of the joint research program between L.A.C., MATE, and NASEC GENETICS, with a special focus on corn hybrids.
- Mutual presentation of partnership proposals.
- Discussion of opportunities for accessing the Kazakh gene bank and launching joint variety breeding and adaptation programs.
- Preparation of joint project structures: variety trials, production, registration processes in Kazakhstan.
During the visit, a detailed presentation was given on the Kaskelen Research Institute, Kazakhstan’s largest practical agricultural research base. The institute has 4,000 hectares of land near Almaty, with numerous arable crops and its own gene bank.
The parties reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening their cooperation. At the end of the program, during an informal professional lunch, specific tasks and schedules were agreed upon, laying the foundation for joint work in the coming period.
